On december3,2018, the Chinese society of traditional Chinese medicine reviewed the commodity specification level of traditional Chinese medicine (226 species), and the review conclusion was that it was still valid. At the same time, the standard number was adjusted according to the actual application. The release of the standard will play a positive role in standardizing the circulation order of the traditional Chinese medicine market, reasonably guiding the production of traditional Chinese medicine, promoting high quality and good price, and promoting e-commerce transactions of traditional Chinese medicine.

This series of standards was approved by the Chinese society of traditional Chinese medicine in the first batch of Chinese medicine group standards pilot work in 2015. It was jointly drafted by more than 50 Chinese medicine research, teaching, supervision, enterprises and other units in China, led by the Chinese medicine resource center of the Chinese Academy of traditional Chinese medicine, and supported by the "Technical Research Center for commodity specification and grade standards of Chinese medicine" jointly approved by the Ministry of Commerce and the State Administration of traditional Chinese medicine. According to the principles of Pharmacopoeia, market-based, simplicity and practicality, this formulation adopts the method of combining literature research, place of origin research and market research. Through the steps of herbal textual research, literature collation, investigation on the genuine and current main production areas of various medicinal materials and their production and processing, place of origin classification, and commodity specification investigation in the professional market of large-scale Chinese medicinal materials, comprehensively considering the influencing factors of various links, measuring and analyzing the character data of the selected medicinal materials on the basis of referring to previous relevant standards, and partially combining the internal quality evaluation, the general rules for the preparation of commodity specification and grade standards of traditional Chinese medicinal materials and the commodity specification and grade standards of 225 commonly used Chinese medicinal materials are finally formulated.

In 2016, 2017 and 2018, 226 items of this series of standards have been released successively. Considering the complexity of commodity specifications and frequency of use of traditional Chinese medicine, this review has adjusted the numbering sequence of the standards, and the drafting instructions of this series of standards will be published later to better play the leading role of the standards.
