    The "efficacy of hypericin against H5N1 and H9N2 subtypes of avian influenza" test submitted by Lanzhou Institute of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences to the National Avian Influenza Reference Laboratory was completed a few days ago. The results showed that hypericin had a good killing effect on highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, and the final killing rate could reach 100%.

    The test report shows that hypericin can be directly contacted with avian influenza H5N1 and H9N2 subtype viruses in vitro at different concentrations. When hypericin contains 3.72mg crude drug per ml, it can kill 100% of the virus after 30 minutes of interaction with avian influenza virus. When hypericin contains 0.744mg crude drug per ml, it can kill more than 99.99% of the virus after 10 minutes of interaction with avian influenza virus.

Undertaken by Lanzhou Institute of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the national scientific and technological research project "research and development of highly pathogenic avian influenza control technology" participated by Yunnan Institute of ecological agriculture is one of them.

    Researcher liangjianping said that the main objective of the scientific research project is to extract hypericin from the Chinese herbal medicine Hypericum perforatum, which can kill the avian influenza virus, and then make it into a compound preparation of Chinese herbal medicine, which can be used as the first choice for the prevention of avian influenza and other viral diseases. Through the efforts of scientific researchers, hypericin has been successfully extracted from Hypericum perforatum, and the route and method of artificial synthesis through chemical process have been preliminarily explored.

    It is understood that in addition to the test of "the killing effect of hypericin on avian influenza H5N1 and H9N2 subtypes", important scientific tests related to hypericin have also been completed and achieved good results.
