Adrenocortical regulation refers to the complex physiological mechanisms governing the synthesis and secretion of hormones by the adrenal cortex, primarily glucocorticoids (e.g., cortisol), mineralocorticoids (e.g., aldosterone), and adrenal androgens. This intricate process is largely controlled by the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, involving corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) from the hypothalamus and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) from the pituitary, alongside feedback loops and other regulatory factors.
