      Doctors from Hong Kong Eye Hospital, Kowloon, Hong Kong and Prince of Wales Hospital, Shatin, new territories have proved through research thatCatechinIt can affect the eyes through digestive organs. The details have been published in the Journal of agricultural and food chemistry published by the American Chemical Society on February 10, 2010.

      In order to confirm whether catechins ingested by mouth can reach the eyes, doctors at Hong Kong Eye Hospital in Kowloon, Hong Kong dissected white mice that took green tea extract at various times and tested the contents ofCatechinQuantity. The results showed that the cornea, lens, retina and other ocular tissues absorbed a certain amount of catechin. Moreover, it was found that the highest concentration of catechin in the eyes was 0.5~12.2 hours after ingestion, and the defense effect against oxidative stress could last for 20 hours after administration.

      It has not been confirmed whether the effect on rats can also be seen in humans. The research results only suggest that green tea extract may help protect the eyes from oxidative stress. Green tea has always been used as the raw material for functional foods such as improving immunity, beauty and slimming. The research results may open another market for functional foods for green tea extract.
